Toddler Room Makeover

Last July, we moved clear across the country from San Diego, California to purchase a home in Portland, Maine. The home was an investment property and we were really excited to make it our own. Our nearly one year old son would be back to having his own room again and I couldn’t wait to put it together!

With a grandfather who’s seemingly always in the woods, I decided it would be perfect to go with a woodland adventure theme for this one. So we put the waves, sea animals, and sailboat art away for a bit and started over from scratch.

Here’s a look at what the room looked like before we purchased the home:

For any kids’ room…no matter the size…storage is really key. You need to have a home for everything in order to maintain your sanity, and even allow for extra storage for when those unexpected gifts from the grandparents inevitably appear in your home. Newly expectant parents, trust me on this one. To plan ahead, I incorporated shelving and storage bins in various sections of the room.

By removing the chair rail and painting the entire room white (including trim work and door), I was able to make the space feel spacious and cheery for our little guy to enjoy. And of course, I added some fun decor to personalize the space and make it his own!
